Fort Mill Last Chance Candidates Challenge
In election years for any local, county, state or national offices in the Fort Mill township, an event is planned and facilitated at the Fort Mill Bandstand in Confederate Park on Main Street.
This event is called the Last Chance Candidates Challenge and is an old-fashioned stump speech which provides the citizens of Fort Mill the opportunity to listen, ask questions and get to know candidates they will be electing. All candidates running for public offices which represent the Fort Mill township are invited to the event, which is usually held the Saturday before the November election day. The event lasts a couple of hours and is sponsored by Move Fort Mill Forward.
Candidates have the opportunity to get their message out to the townspeople, hand out campaign materials, and even display their political sign right in the middle of downtown Fort Mill. Local folks get to know the candidates so they can make an informed decision by the time they go to the polls. Each candidate is given a few minutes to speak uninterrupted and an additional few minutes to answer questions from the attendees.
For many years the Fort Mill bandstand was used for political speeches, and this event lets the town experience these good old days again and allows people to meet their candidates. It also shows off the charm and friendly atmosphere of downtown Fort Mill.
